Vein Diseases Can Pose Threat

Many people are aware of the ugly cosmetic effects of varicose veins and related vein diseases. However, there are other less known vein diseases that can be just as dangerous if left unattended. Spider veins, on the other hands, are generally not as fatal even though many opt to remove these unsightly veins as well.

In order to understand the risks posed by various venous diseases it is best to first fully understand how veins work within the body. The arteries move oxygenated blood from the heart to the other parts of the body. The veins, on the other hand, are responsible for carrying the blood needing oxygen back to the heart.

The blood is moved towards the heart through muscle contractions. Vein valves prevent the blood to flow back when the muscles relax. Varicose veins develop when the valves malfunction which causes the blood to flow back and a pool is made in the vein.  When a vein is damaged or weak then the disorder also happens and they occur mostly in the legs.

Below are some types of common vein diseases:

There are many treatment options for whatever vein disease that one may have. Compression stockings can be worn to help in the compression of leg muscles for better blood circulation. Medications like anticoagulants may also help limit the effects of venous disease in some instances. Less invasive methods can be made like laser treatment and sclerotherapy. Surgery can also be opted for deeper and larger swollen veins.

The existence of varicose veins and other forms of vein disease can be an indication of other health issues. They are often a symptom of a bigger health issue and this should not be taken for granted.  The discomfort alone from having such vein disease maybe enough reason to visit a doctor and have the proper treatment for such disorder.
