Steven E. Zimmet, M.D., is an internationally-recognized physician who has been practicing medicine in Austin, Texas, for more than 30 years. Dr. Zimmet received his premedical education from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, prior to earning his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 1978. He went on to complete his residency at the Department of Family Medicine, with an emphasis in dermatology, at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1981.

Dr. Zimmet's affiliation with the Austin Regional Clinic in Austin, Texas, began in 1981, where he served on their Board of Directors. Zimmet Vein & Dermatology, which specializes in cosmetic and procedural dermatology as well as varicose vein treatment, was established in 1996. He satisfied the exacting standards set forth by the American Board of Phlebology to become a Diplomate of the board in 2008, and is a Registered Vascular Technologist.

Dr. Zimmet began serving on the American College of Phlebology Annual Meeting Planning Committee in 1996 and advanced through the ranks to eventually hold the office of President in 2005. He is one of two people to receive the American College of Phlebology Leadership Award due to his continued leadership and advancements in phlebology. Dr. Zimmet currently serves as Founding President of the American Board of Phlebology and was the Founding Chairman of the American College of Phlebology Foundation.

Since graduating from Georgetown University 34 years ago, Dr. Zimmet has made outstanding contributions to medicine. Dr. Zimmet's knowledge and expertise as a varicose vein doctor has been recognized both in the United States and abroad. He is Editor of "Phlebology: The Journal of Venous Disease", and a reviewer for various medical journals, including the British Journal of Surgery and the Australasian Journal of Dermatology. Dr. Zimmet has been an invited faculty member at medical conferences around the world, and has given numerous scientific presentations.

Dr. Zimmet helped develop Endovenous Laser Treatment (ELT) procedures and was instrumental in helping obtain FDA approval of this advanced vein treatment method. He specializes in minimally invasive and therapeutic treatments for vein and skin conditions. As a world-renowned authority with two decades of laser therapy training, Dr. Zimmet has taught many others to utilize these treatment techniques.

Throughout his career, Dr. Zimmet has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions from peers and patients alike. He has received awards for research, and is a Fellow of the American College of Phlebology, an Emeritus Fellow of the Australasian College of Phlebology and an Honorary Member of the French Society of Phlebology. Best Doctors, a patient referral service which surveys 50,000 physicians across the globe, has included Dr. Zimmet in its "Best Doctors in America 2001-2012" database. Dr. Zimmet was honored with the 2011 Patients' Choice Award, a distinction that is based upon consistently excellent ratings and conferred upon less than 10% of the 830,000 physicians in active practice in the United States.
