How effective are combined natural remedies in the prevention of varicose veins?

Varicose veins run in my family, so I have started wearing compression stockings at work, where I sit for a prolonged period of time. I am also taking the horse chestnut herb and butcher’s broom plant extract. How effective are these combined natural remedies in the prevention of varicose veins?

The horse chestnut may have some mild benefits, but the best prevention is frequent walking and activities, wearing shoes with good arch support (avoiding elevated heels), and consider wearing compression hose when you need to stand for longer periods, such as work-related and during pregnancies. There is no advantage to sleeping with the hose as gravity does not cause resistance to venous flow when you are laying down, since the flow is no longer uphill from the legs to the heart. I do not believe the herbs or supplements will make much difference overall in preventing unwanted veins.

There is really nothing that prevents varicose veins from occurring, natural or otherwise.

There is nothing wrong with taking these supplements, but they may or may not benefit you. Time will tell.
