How will weight loss help my varicose veins?

I am a 29 year old female. I have a varicose vein issue in my bottom left leg. I am 5 feet 3 inches and weigh 203 pounds. I want to start exercising and lose weight. Will this also get rid of the vein problem or at least improve it?

Weight is not a direct factor in developing varicose veins, but increasing activity will benefit both your weight and improve venous blood flow. Walking or other low impact exercise is the most beneficial. Loss of subcutaneous fat may make some superficial veins more visible, but this usually will not be noticeable. Exercise helps to reduce the progression of existing veins and in developing new varicose veins. The varicose veins you already have will not disappear with weight loss, but can be treated at a vein clinic, which is typically an in-office procedure.
