What does a vein screening consist of?

What is the purpose of a vein screening? What happens during the screening? What type of results will it give me?

Vein screening is a physical exam usually involving the legs with evaluation of the type, location, and the extent of poorly functioning veins. If there are varicose veins or signs of chronic venous insufficiency, then the evaluation may include a more detailed ultrasound examination of the Saphenous veins. The first step in determining the extent of any vein problems and to develop future treatment plans begin with a vein screening.

You may want to contact the center that is doing the screening, as each one is different. It should include some history, a brief exam and possibly a quick screening ultrasound. This depends on the person or center doing the screening.
