What is phlebology and what is a phlebologist? Is it the same thing as a vein doctor?

Phlebology is the branch of medicine that deals with veins and diseases of the veins. A Phlebologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders.

'Phlebo' is the Latin word for vein and 'ology' means the study of, so, Phlebology is the field of medicine that involves the science, diagnoses and treatment of venous (vein) disease (problems). A phlebologist is someone who practices phlebology, so yes, a phlebologist is a physician who is a vein doctor.

Phlebology is the study of veins, and it covers how to treat veins that are diseased. A phlebologist, however, usually refers to an expert in obtaining blood samples. For example, in a hospital, you would typically have your blood drawn by a phlebologist. Vein doctors come from many different backgrounds, like interventional radiology, dermatology, vascular surgery, internal medicine, and so on.
