Are varicose veins hereditary? There is a hereditary component of at least 50 percent of patients with varicose veins. Many patients, mother, grandmother will have varicose veins and many patients will have hereditary component. Heredity is very important, a risk factor in varicose veins. Again, if you have a relative, a mother, grandmother, an aunt with varicose veins, you likely have at least 50 percent chance of getting varicose veins during your lifetime.
