Video Overview

What medical problems can be caused by spider veins? For some people, spider veins are more than just a cosmetic eyesore. Spider veins are rarely a serious health problem, but they can and often do cause aching, cramping, itching, throbbing, burning, tingling, and heaviness. Spider veins can also be a sign of deeper venous insufficiency. That is veins below the surface with poor functioning valves, which can cause more severe problems including swelling, skin thickening, discoloration, and ulcerations.
